Autodesk ends the sale of new perpetual licenses after January 31 2016

9 July 2015

What does it mean for you?  How can realDolmen help you ?

Autodesk is gradually transitioning from perpetual software licenses to subscription-based options. In a first phase as from January 31, new seats of individual Autodesk software products (so not the Suite products yet) will be available only on a Desktop Subscription basis.

Desktop Subscription products are easy to install and to maintain.  They can be easily updated with the latest tools and technologies.  The positive result is a lower investment cost and the ability to pay per use.  Desktop Subscription lets you access Autodesk software on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, so you can control your costs.  Two and three-year plans are also available.

What products are affected?

It is initially about the individual Autodesk software products, not about the Suites.

Are you ready for this ?

We are aware that this new model is not easy to apply in the existing organization for everyone. For instance, accounting and/or infrastructural changes could be necessary.  In that case, we are happy to propose you the solution below.

Your perpetual licenses remain valid after January 31 2016, but you will not be able to purchase new perpetual licenses anymore. Nothing changes for your existing subcsription licenses.

If you’re considering to renew or extend your Autodesk software in the near future though, this message is definitely meant for you.

The changes apply to both 'standalone' licenses, as for' networked' licenses.

There are several possible scenarios:

  • You can switch to Desktop Subscription and RealDolmen can guide you in an ideal rental formula tailored to your needs, both in terms of software and in terms of related cloud services (A360).
  • You can delay the switch by purchasing a (multi year) Maintenance Subscription for your exisiting licenses, and RealDolmen provides a transition model.
  • You could also obtain a delay by converting your individual sofwtare licenses into Suites with Maintenance Subscription.
